This is a valid question asked by many people including our customers. The pricing varies in regards to quality of the number plates. The bargin so called number plates on offer from a well known auction site tend to be of low quality and supplied by sellers who are not licensed todo so by the DVLA, this means your number plate will fail the MOT and the ANPR cameras will pick it up and you will recieve a fine so those cheap number plates were not so cheap afterall!

In the UK a number plates must be supplied by a DVLA licensed number plate supplier.  If you buy a number plate from a seller who is not a licensed number supplier your number plate will not have the DVLA licensed number plate seller verification id and will not pass a MOT.

What documents do I need to buy a number plate?

In order for us to make a number plate  for your vehicle you are required to provide proof of vehicle entitlement to the number plate and documentation to prove your identity.  All documents must be originals and one document must be supplied from lisi one and two.  Click here if you would like to view the documents required in image format.

List One:

• Vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI) – these are the preferred documents
• The new keeper supplement (V5C/2 or V5C/2NI) of the registration certificate
• Certificate of entitlement (called ‘V750′ in England and Wales)
• Retention document (V778) (England and Wales only)
• Vehicle licence renewal form (V11)
• Temporary registration certificate (V379) (not applicable in Northern Ireland)
• Authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) or Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA)
• A letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) (England and Wales only) – the letter must quote the document reference number from the registration certificate, not the vehicle identification number

List Two:

• Driving licence, whether or not issued in the United Kingdom (UK) (with or without a photo) – this is preferred because it’s a secure, government-issued document showing both name and address
• A bill issued by your electricity, gas or water supplier, a landline telephone bill, or a council tax bill (current within the last six months) or rates bill (in Northern Ireland only)
• A bank or building society statement
• A passport, whether or not issued in the UK
• A national identity card issued by the government of a state or territory other than the UK
• A debit or credit card issued by a bank or building society
• A police warrant card
• An armed forces identity card
